Razi Clanktrap didn’t set out to be a hero. She just wanted to explore the Daigendark, squeezing through unstable tunnels, leaping chasms by lantern light, and outrunning cave-ins with her clockwork owl shrieking overhead.
But when Bren Palesworn warned the Nimbledook gnomes of Craniax the Quick and his incoming horde of undead, Razi grinned. Four gnomes against all that? Challenge accepted.
Bren taught her to turn her pain into purpose. Now she teaches the other gnomes of Nimbledook to do the same. She’s the first to dive into danger, the last to retreat, and the one the rest of the gnomes trust to get them through whatever comes next.
Craniax and his allies bring an ever-growing army of undead. The Nimbledook bring distractions—traps rigged to collapse caverns, runes of evocation scrawled on the trunks of trees, buried explosives set off with a hoot from Razi’s owl. They know they can’t stop the tide, but if they can buy time until the mage wagons arrive, they might just have a fighting chance.
And if they can’t?
Then the Nimbledook will go down having the kind of wild adventure most rock gnomes only dream about. Shame about the whole reborn-as-a-rotting-corpse-afterward bit, though.
